To improve players' ability to combine centrally and play with width, using wide players as finishers or progression points. This session builds awareness of width, body shape, and fast combinations to exploit space in and around wide areas.
The game is played in a rectangular pitch with two central teams (2v2) and neutral players (A and B) in fixed positions. Players in the A position (wide channels) are the only players allowed to score. They can receive passes and shoot on goal, but must play on two touches (or one in progression). They can be tackled. B players also play on the outside but serve as the reset or link players. They cannot score. A goal triggers a rotation: A players are replaced by B players. B players are replaced by the conceding team. The conceding team rotates into the A (scoring) positions. To flex the setup, run with 4 teams of 3 – split the A positions into two so each neutral team has two players wide and one in the B position. Play is directional, always attacking opposite ends. Use two goals per side or adjust to one central goal for more realism.
