Setup: • Use half the field with a goal and a goalkeeper. • Place two poles or cones at the top of the box to act as gates. • A coach or partner plays the ball from midfield. • The diagram illustrates two variations of the drill. Drill 1: • The player checks short and bounces the ball back to the coach/partner. • As soon as the ball is returned, the player bends their run behind the gate. • The coach/partner plays the ball into their path for a finish with one or two touches. Drill 2: • The player starts between the gates. • The coach/partner plays a through ball, directing the player to finish. • Use two different coloured cones so the coach/partner can call out the colour, requiring the player to adjust their run to that side. • The player must time their run to receive the ball in stride and finish efficiently.
