Defending Shape & Roles: • Compact, narrow shape with correct spacing between defenders • CBs lead communication, with FBs adjusting based on the ball's location • Line should move as a unit, shift together to stay compact and avoid gaps Decision-Making: • Delay and control the attacker’s speed of play • Recognise when to step out or drop • Force attackers into wider, less dangerous areas Body Position & Timing: • Side-on body shape to adjust quickly • Delay the attacker by jockeying instead of diving in • Identify moments to step in and win the ball cleanly Transitions (Defending to Attacking): • Regain and secure possession before playing forward • Use wide players or target mini goals to escape pressure • Quick scan and support from teammates upon winning the ball
