Attacking Principles • Use third-man runs to break lines and exploit central overloads. • Speed of play — one and two-touch combinations to unbalance the defence. • Recognise when to circulate vs when to penetrate. • Support the ball early and offer passing options behind pressure. Transitional Play • Upon winning possession: Can we attack quickly? Where is the space? • Upon losing possession: Immediate counter press or recovery into compact shape? • Players furthest from the ball should begin recovery runs early. Positional Awareness • Constant scanning to understand spacing and pressure. • Make decisions based on triggers — such as defender stepping or teammate movement. • Maintain compact vertical and horizontal distances to support fast transitions.
