To develop fluid 1-2 combinations, movement off the ball, and technical precision under time pressure while travelling directionally around the pitch.
• Set up a square or rectangular grid with four corner stations, each with a pair of players • In the centre zone, place 4 neutral (N) players to enable the combinations. • Each station follows a set passing and movement pattern: ◦ Player A dribble up to the first cone and then passes into the central neutral player and moves to receive a 1-2 return. ◦ They then play out to the end cone (Player B), where another quick 1-2 is played with a teammate, who collects the return and plays a 1-2 with the central player. • The pattern is continuous: pass, move, bounce, return. • Players rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise around the square, ensuring every player completes the circuit. • Keep tempo high. If a mistake occurs, reset and go again — it’s about speed, precision, and movement. • Every few minutes, rotate the middle players. • As a progression, the middle players should look to a different cone to play the 1-2 around after every pass, ensuring they increase their awareness. • Another progression could be to add a passive defender in the middle zone to increase pressure.
