• The pitch is divided into two zones (top and bottom) with attackers (red), defenders (green), and support players (blue) in set zones • The red team (attackers) attempt to work the ball forward and break lines via the central dotted area. They can play around the central dotted line if required. • The green team (defenders) must protect the middle area and deny passes through them • Blue neutral players provide switch options across the pitch • Defenders must adjust as the ball moves, maintaining narrowness to cover the centre while pressing the ball when appropriate • If the ball is successfully passed through the central defensive line, the green team receive a point • Rotate roles every few minutes to expose all players to the defensive principles • The team with the least points (i.e. the least number of times they were breached centrally) win. Progression Options: • Add a transition phase where if defenders gain possession, they can play an exit pass to the team on the other half of the pitch to “get out” of being defenders. The team who gave the ball away become the defenders. • Limit attackers to three touches to increase decision-making tempo.
