Starting Position - Compact and narrow line of defenders - Maintain small distances between players to block central lanes - Always ready to shuffle as a unit Body Shape - Side-on to see both ball and passing lanes - Adjust quickly as the ball moves left or right - Avoid square or flat footed positioning Speed and Angle of Approach - Close quickly, but under control - Approach on a curved line to block inside pass - Force play wide while staying compact centrally Communication and Scanning - Constant verbal cues from central defenders to organise - Anticipate third-man runs and disguise - Communicate when to press and when to drop
