To develop players’ ability to retain possession under increasing pressure, make quick decisions in tight spaces, and build confidence in keeping the ball under threat of transition.
• Set up a possession grid (half-pitch or adjusted space depending on age/ability). • The black team (e.g., 7 players + GK) begin with the ball and aim to keep possession. • Red players (defenders) are introduced one at a time every 30 seconds (or every 5 passes as a variation). • The game continues until defenders win possession and score in the main goal. • When defenders score, restart with a fresh attacking team or repeat with the same. • Optionally, treat this as a team challenge – how long can the attackers keep the ball? Compete across groups or sessions.
