Improve defensive structure and reactions to opposition movement by shifting across the pitch, squeezing space centrally, and dropping to protect key defensive areas.
Defensive Shifting: • Defenders must stay compact & move as a unit when the ball is played across. Pressing Triggers: • Recognise cues for when to press, such as poor touches or slow passes from the opposition. Communication: • Constantly communicate to ensure defensive organisation, particularly in transitions. Dropping vs Holding the Line: • Decide when to drop deeper or hold the line to control space effectively. Counter-Attacking Mentality: • On regain, players should quickly exploit space to attack through the mini-goals.
