To improve attacking players’ decision-making and execution in the final third through third-man runs, clever combinations, and high-quality finishing under pressure.
Setup: • Use the final third of the pitch. • Mark out a defined attacking area leading into the penalty box. • Use 3 attacking players: A, B, and C (assigned roles). • Use a mannequin to simulate pressure. • 1 goalkeeper in goal. Execution: • Phase 1: ◦ Player A passes into B, who sets it back. ◦ C makes a third-man run to receive from A, dribbles past the mannequin, and finishes. • Phase 2: ◦ Instead of attacking the mannequin, A combines with wide player C. ◦ C delivers a cross into the box for B to finish centrally. Progression: • Introduce a defender who enters the box once the ball is played wide, creating a 1v1 or 2v1 in the penalty area.
